Tempura Spicy Beans

This recipe is from one of our Foodies, Jewel Craig.

1 cup flour
1 tbsp. corn starch
Seasoned to taste – I used cayenne and salt
Penna’ s Spicy Beans
1 – 1 & 1/2 cups cold club soda
Oil for frying

Heat approximately 1/2 ” of oil in deep skillet till a pinch of flour dropped into oil sizzles immediately.

Dry the beans on paper towels then toss in dry flour/ cornstarch mixture. Set aside while mixing batter.  Add club soda to remaining flour mixture till forms thin batter. Take floured Spicy Beans, dip one at a time into tempura batter, allowing excess to drip off. Place gently into hot oil, repeating with remaining Spicy Beans. Fry 2-3 minutes or until batter is set and crisp. Remove from oil, drain on rack or paper towels and sprinkle with paprika for color and sea salt, if desired. Serve with dipping sauce of your choice. I used blue cheese in photo but cocktail sauce was my favorite.
